8th week (final)

DOME TESTING!!!!!!

carrying the dome.. we have placed the base at the testing site (old swimming pool) few days before..

we are the 8th team.... carrying our shuttle island into the pool

Pei cheen the first to enter....

followed by aida and last one me...

its floating!!!!

wan b asked we to stand up... but our dome too low.

switch position...

terbalik @@ alamak!

our dome can be consider to be successful i think. because, it can accommodate the 3 of us and it floats. however, when it hit obstacle, it loss its balance if we don't know how to control the raft. we need to work together to get the raft to be stable . working alone will not help anything at all.

bamboo alone has its float ability. however, its not enough to support human if its placed far apart. if the bamboo is placed as close as possible to each other... it definitely will float and are very stable too.

there's lots of things that can be use as floats. however, the most effective way would be the tyres. the problem with tyre is that we might get puncture tyre. when its puncture, tyre will be able to support the raft anymore.

the base should not be too small as well. it limits the movement of human. we done our base pretty small. 150x150cm only. its rather hard for us to move around.

whatever the outcome is, we've done our best. its a great experience as all of us never build 1 before.

7th week

dome testing.... pei cheen and aida went back earlier to USM to test our dome. unfortunately i wasn't there to be with them as i'm back to my hometown (sarawak).

so, we borrowed a big tyre from a friend - ours are not yet pump. it float but not really stable. so we decided to use 4 tyres.

our original dome tied with 4 tongs and a tyre in the middle. but as the people in charge at the old swimming pool said we cant use tongs inside the swimming pool, so we changed to 4 tyres.

hopefully it works out on the real dome-testing day!

our base...

just reach the site...

aida and pei cheen... wanna start to test the floatability of our base

6th week

raya!!! luckily we manage to finish everything before going back to our hometown last week^^

pc restrengthen the raft

this is how we restrengthen the knots

we cut bamboo into small pieces like this n slip it in between the knots

as both bamboo are round, they need a fat surface to have tight knots, so with this small pieces, it strengthen the knots

we realised that our raft is not stable. so we cut another bamboo to stablised the raft

tying the bamboo

this is how it looks like

re-do the dome... we measure how long we need
